A projectile struck a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Sunday and started a fire, the Saudi-led military coalition fighting Houthi rebels in Yemen said.
The coalition said the projectile hit Terminal 4, less than 24 hours after a missile attack at the same airport on Saturday killed at least 12 people and injured more than 300. Coalition spokesperson Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki said Saudi air defences also intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile near the airport.
The origin of the latest projectile and the extent of the damage were not immediately clear, and no casualties from Sunday’s incident had been confirmed. Saturday’s attack forced the suspension of airport operations, and several international airlines cancelled or diverted flights.
The Houthis have renewed warnings to airlines and travellers against using Saudi airports and airspace. Riyadh is a major connecting point for Gulf travel, which many Sri Lankan migrant workers and their families rely on.
Airlines have not yet announced when normal flights will resume.
