A naval officer told the Colombo High Court on Thursday that Yoshitha Rajapaksa received about Rs. 5,150,626 in salary during his service in the Sri Lanka Navy.

The officer gave evidence in the money laundering case filed against Rajapaksa, a son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The witness said the sum was the total of salary payments and did not include any allowances.

Salary records of this kind are typically used in such trials to compare a defendant’s lawful income with the assets in question. The court has not made any finding in the case.

The trial is continuing, with further witnesses to be examined.
