The Court of Appeal on Wednesday fixed contempt of court proceedings against six people, including former Ministers Wimal Weerawansa and Udaya Gammanpila and Parliamentarian Dilith Jayaweera, for 15 October.

The six are accused of making false and contemptuous statements about ongoing judicial proceedings related to the Easter Sunday attacks. The case was taken up before a three-judge bench comprising Court of Appeal President Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, Justice Chamath Morais and Justice Adithya Patabendige.

The proceedings stem from a complaint by Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena. The complaint alleges that the statements were made in connection with court proceedings involving retired Major General Suresh Sallay.

The case will be taken up again on 15 October.
