A missile struck a passenger terminal at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Saturday, injuring several people and forcing an evacuation, according to The Associated Press.
Two regional officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack. One said many people were wounded. Saudi authorities had not publicly confirmed any casualties.
Flights bound for Riyadh were diverted, according to flight-tracking service Flightradar24. Kuwait Airways cancelled its Riyadh services because of the airport closure, and the Canadian Embassy advised its citizens to avoid travelling to the airport.
The airport has been targeted several times in the past week. Earlier attacks, which the Houthi rebels in Yemen said they carried out, killed four people. No group had claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack.
Riyadh is a major transit point for Gulf travel, so Sri Lankans with flights through the Saudi capital should check with their airline for changes.
