President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said he will appoint a committee to amend the laws governing how Buddhist monks are kept in prison and how they can be released from prison.
The committee will also introduce new orders and regulations on the matter, the President said. He spoke after meeting Buddhist monks at the Presidential Secretariat.
The move would change the legal framework that applies to monks who are held in custody in Sri Lanka.
No date has been given for the committee’s appointment.
