Parliament passed the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill with amendments and without a vote on Thursday 8 October.

The Bill amends the Anti-Corruption Act, No. 9 of 2023. According to Parliament, it addresses legal, administrative and technical problems met in applying the Act and resolves discrepancies between its Sinhala and English texts.

It also streamlines the investigation and prosecution of corruption offences, improves administrative processes at the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), and moves the submission of asset and liability declarations to a centralised electronic system.

Parliament said the changes are meant to strengthen the legal and institutional framework against corruption.
