Sri Lanka and Lithuania signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political cooperation during the first high-level visit to Sri Lanka by a Lithuanian state delegation, the Consulate of Lithuania in Sri Lanka said.

Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Verbickas visited from 4 to 6 October to mark 30 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He held the first political consultations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, at the invitation of Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra. Lithuanian Ambassador Diana Mickevičienė accompanied him.

The delegation also met Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne to discuss digitalisation, GovTech, digital public services and artificial intelligence. Verbickas gave a lecture at the University of Colombo.

The consulate said the visit set a framework for regular dialogue and opened the way for cooperation in technology, education, trade and professional exchanges.
