Air India Group and IndiGo cancelled and diverted several flights to Riyadh on Thursday after Houthi rebels reportedly fired a missile towards Riyadh International Airport.

Air India said flight AI2243 from Delhi to Riyadh returned to Delhi in the interest of passenger and crew safety and was then cancelled. The airline said all its flights to and from Riyadh are cancelled until 10 October, with full refunds offered. Air India Express also cancelled its Riyadh services until 10 October.

An IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Riyadh was diverted to Dammam. According to airline sources, IndiGo also cancelled Riyadh to Delhi flights on Thursday and Friday, and Riyadh services to Hyderabad and Mumbai on Friday. The sources described the situation as still evolving.

Airlines advised passengers booked to Riyadh to check flight status before travelling to the airport. Sri Lankans with onward connections through Riyadh may wish to confirm their bookings with their carriers.
