The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) has arrested the Assistant Superintendent of the Trincomalee Remand Prison over an alleged bribe of Rs. 1.235 million.

According to the allegations, the official solicited the money from a supplier who provides dry-food items for inmates at the prison.

The commission said the Assistant Superintendent was arrested for allegedly soliciting and accepting the payment of Rs. 1,235,000 through a prison guard.

The official has been arrested in connection with the allegation and has not been found guilty of any wrongdoing.

Further investigations into the alleged transaction are under way.
