Minister Bimal Rathnayake tabled a 10-page document listing 50 corruption, fraud and criminal cases in Parliament on Thursday, rejecting claims that the government is pursuing political revenge.
Rathnayake said the cases did not originate with the present administration but stem from complaints and legal proceedings dating back to the 2015 to 2019 period.
He said earlier investigations were suppressed through political connections and influence, and that investigators now carry out their work without political interference.
The document covers former ministers, members of the Rajapaksa family, former state officials, police officers and businesspeople. It lists matters including the Central Bank bond transactions, the MiG aircraft procurement, the Divi Neguma funds case and the Carlton Sports Network allegations.
It also refers to proceedings over the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks and the killing of journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge. The document lists the cases as allegations, and a person named in it is not guilty unless a court has so found.
