The Saudi-led coalition fighting Yemen’s Houthis said on Saturday it had destroyed 136 military targets in areas controlled by the Iran-backed group.

Coalition spokesman Turki al-Maliki described the strikes as a “large-scale operation” in posts on X. The Houthi-run Almasirah TV channel reported that Saudi missiles hit areas in Saada governorate in north-western Yemen.

The fighting between the Houthis and Yemen’s internationally recognised government, which Saudi Arabia supports, reignited in July. It has since spread into Saudi Arabia, where the Houthis have attacked transport hubs and oil facilities with drones and missiles.

The Houthis have also taken territory along Yemen’s Red Sea coast.

Sri Lanka has a large number of workers in Saudi Arabia, and the Red Sea is a key route for shipping that serves Sri Lankan ports. No further operations had been announced by the coalition at the time of reporting.
