A six-day march demanding the release of the imprisoned monk Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera entered its second day on Sunday, with participants walking from Kadugannawa to Kegalle.

The march began on Saturday from the Mahamaluwa of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy. A large number of people, including members of the Maha Sangha, took part.

An Adhishtana Pooja titled “Justice for the Robe” was held at the Mahamaluwa on Saturday morning before the march set out. It follows public debate over the Thera being brought to court in civilian clothes while serving a prison sentence.

According to the planned route, the march will go from Kegalle to Warakapola on Monday and on to Nittambuwa on 13 October. It resumes from Nittambuwa on 14 October, reaches Kadawatha that evening and is due to end in Colombo on 15 October.
