The Cabinet has approved providing 1,050 official email accounts for 350 courts across Sri Lanka as part of efforts to digitalise the judicial system.
The accounts will use the courts.gov.lk domain and will be hosted on the email system the Ministry of Justice and National Integration already uses. Voice-to-text technology and video conferencing facilities will also be added.
The proposal was presented by the Minister of Justice and National Integration under the e-Court project, which aims to digitalise all courts. Cabinet first approved the project in December 2025.
Digital systems for case-file management are being developed for Magistrate’s Courts, District Courts and High Courts.
Voice-to-text will convert oral statements into written documents immediately, which is meant to ease a shortage of stenographers in courts. Video conferencing will allow proceedings to be held online in line with existing law.
Officers at all levels of the judicial system are expected to receive official email facilities.
