The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has warned the public about fraudulent SMS messages sent in its name, offering jobs in Israel.

The Bureau said scammers are using the messages to try to obtain money or sensitive personal and financial information from recipients.

It urged people not to click links in suspicious messages that promise overseas jobs or financial benefits, and not to share bank account details, passwords or other personal information.

Job seekers should not deposit money into bank accounts given in such messages, the SLBFE said. Anyone making a payment linked to foreign employment should first confirm that the account is officially associated with the Bureau.

People planning to work abroad can check whether a foreign employment agency is genuine on the SLBFE’s official website. Further information is available on the Bureau’s hotline, 1989.
