White House press secretary Katie Zacharia is leaving the role after five days, a White House official confirmed on Friday, 16 October, saying she was “transitioning out” of the position.
She replaced Karoline Leavitt. Her first briefing, on 13 October, lasted about 14 minutes and drew criticism, according to reports.
Questions were also raised about her legal credentials after she acknowledged that she had not passed the bar examination, despite earlier being described as an attorney.
President Donald Trump said he had advised Zacharia to reconsider remaining in the post, arguing that the media had treated her unfairly.
Reuters reported that her tenure is the shortest of any White House press secretary in US history.
