Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage has been nominated for the 2026 Men’s World Athlete of the Year award.
He was crowned Ultimate, Diamond League, Asian Games and Commonwealth javelin champion during the year. He also produced a world-leading throw of 92.62 metres, a new Sri Lankan national record.
Public voting for the award is open and closes at 11.59 p.m. CEST on Saturday 17 October.
The nomination puts a Sri Lankan athlete among the leading contenders for one of the sport’s major annual honours.
