The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) said fuel prices can be kept at current levels until the end of October and that there is no problem with its stocks.

CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna said the corporation expects to maintain the present price and supply position over the next three months, provided there are no major unforeseen disruptions.

He said temporary shortages could occur in some areas because other fuel companies have reduced supplies to their filling stations. About 62 such areas were identified roughly three weeks ago, and arrangements have since been made with the companies concerned to send more fuel to them.

Rajakaruna urged motorists not to panic or form unnecessary queues, saying there is no reason to expect a major nationwide shortage. Motorists who meet queues or shortages at stations run by other companies can use the nearest CPC filling station.

The corporation reviews its stocks every Tuesday and has no concerns about reserves at present, he said. As a precaution, it has arranged to speed up two additional fuel shipments and to import more than the country needs for October.
