The Cabinet has approved contracts worth Rs. 1,614.69 million for 21 printing institutions to produce school textbooks and modules for free distribution to students in 2027.

The first phase of the programme covers 421 types of textbooks and modules, including modules for Grades 1, 2 and 6.

The Department of Educational Publications invited bids under the National Competitive Procurement procedure and received 31. The contracts are to go to 21 printers on the recommendation of the High-Level Standing Procurement Committee. The total, about Rs. 1.614 billion, does not include Value Added Tax (VAT).

The Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the Prime Minister in her capacity as Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education.

The award allows printing to be arranged ahead of the 2027 school year, when the books are due to be given to students free of charge.
