The Cabinet has approved a Rs. 91.21 million feasibility study on reducing traffic congestion around Lotus Junction, the Port Access Elevated Highway and the Marine Drive Connector Road in Colombo.
The consultancy contract goes to M/s Master Hellie’s Engineering Consultants (Pvt) Ltd, on the recommendation of the Cabinet-appointed Consultancy Procurement Committee.
The contract has a local component of Rs. 52.44 million and a foreign component of US$ 122,859. The total of Rs. 91.21 million excludes value added tax (VAT).
The Road Development Authority (RDA) had called for Expressions of Interest to select a firm. Five firms were shortlisted and invited to submit proposals.
The Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development presented the proposal to the Cabinet.
The study is meant to identify measures to ease congestion on the routes, which are used daily by commuters and freight traffic entering and leaving Colombo.
