The Government has decided to give official email addresses to public sector employees as part of efforts to speed up the digitalisation of the public service, the Ministry of Digital Economy said.

Deputy Minister of Digital Economy Eranga Weeraratne said many public employees currently use personal email addresses for official communication.

Official addresses will let officials exchange documents and other information more securely, and make activities such as video conferencing easier, he said.

The facility will be provided to all public officials who conduct official communications by email. Weeraratne said the programme is expected to improve links between public institutions.
