Army Commander Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne commended Lance Corporal L. H. V. Jayanath at Army Headquarters on Monday for rescuing a four-year-old child from drowning.
Jayanath, of the 14th Regiment of the Sri Lanka Engineers, was on leave and attending a funeral in the Pasyala area on 28 September when he saw the child fall into a well. He jumped in and pulled the child out.
The Army Commander praised his quick response, courage and responsible attitude toward protecting the lives of others.
