Zones 1 and 1A of Yala National Park, near Tissamaharama in the Southern Province, will reopen to local and foreign visitors from 6 a.m. on 16 October, park authorities announced.
The two zones were closed from 14 September to 15 October because of severe drought conditions.
Tourist bungalows and campsites inside the park will reopen from 1 November, according to Park Keeper A.T.R. Ravinda Kumara.
Yala is one of the country’s best-known wildlife destinations, so the reopening matters to tour operators and safari businesses that depend on visitor numbers in the area.
