The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers in most parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. on Monday.
Fairly heavy falls above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern, Uva and North-Western provinces, and in the Anuradhapura and Mannar districts.
The department asked the public to take adequate precautions against temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers. Misty conditions are expected in the morning in parts of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces.
Winds around the island will be north-easterly or variable at 20 to 30 kmph, and the seas will be slight. Gusts of 60 to 70 kmph and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
The department also said a low-pressure area is likely to form over the south-east Bay of Bengal on Tuesday. It asked the naval and fishing communities to follow its future bulletins.
