Investigations are under way into people spreading hate speech through fake social media accounts, Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala told Parliament on Friday.
He said the Computer Crime Investigation Divisions are inquiring into several incidents of hate speech targeting different communities. The investigations have identified individuals both in Sri Lanka and overseas who allegedly used fake accounts to spread the content.
The Minister said no evidence had so far been found of an organised group targeting a particular community.
Wijepala said authorities had given special attention to several incidents and had already submitted relevant information to the courts.
The inquiries are continuing.
