A total of 185 Sri Lankan police officers will be deployed to Haiti for United Nations peacekeeping duties in three groups, the Police Media Division said.
The first two groups are due to leave this month and the third is expected to depart in November.
The contingent has 174 Special Task Force (STF) personnel and 11 other officers, including two doctors from the Police Medical Division. Ranks range from Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of Police to constables and drivers, and women officers are among those selected.
Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasooriya met the officers at the STF Training School in Katukurunda on Tuesday and wished them well. STF officers presented him a guard of honour.
