The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers across most parts of Sri Lanka after 1 p.m. on Thursday.

Heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and North Central provinces, and in Trincomalee and Kurunegala districts, the department said.

A few showers may also occur in the morning in coastal areas of the Western Province and in Galle and Matara districts. Misty conditions are expected in parts of the Sabaragamuwa, Central and Uva provinces during the early morning.

Heavy rain can affect road travel and raise the risk of flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas. The department urged the public to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
