Fitch Ratings has assigned a final National Long-Term Rating of ‘A(lka)’ to Sampath Bank PLC’s proposed rupee-denominated Basel III subordinated debentures of up to Rs. 10 billion.
The debentures will mature in five and seven years and will be listed on the Colombo Stock Exchange, Fitch said. Sampath Bank plans to use the proceeds to add to its Tier 2 capital and support loan growth.
The final rating is the same as the expected rating Fitch assigned on 10 September 2026. It sits two notches below the bank’s own National Long-Term Rating of ‘AA-(lka)’ with a Stable outlook.
The debentures carry a clause under which they convert to ordinary voting shares if a trigger event is determined by the Governing Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL).
