A former gang leader, Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison on Tuesday for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting death of rapper Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas.

Davis was found guilty of first-degree murder in August. He was sentenced at a hearing in a Las Vegas courtroom before Judge Carli Kierny.

Shakur’s younger sister, Sekyiwa Shakur, gave tearful testimony at the hearing. She said their mother had raised him to be a human rights activist. “He believed her,” she said.

Shakur was shot dead in the passenger seat of an SUV driven by his record executive, Marion “Suge” Knight. Until Davis was arrested in 2023, the killing had stood for nearly three decades as one of the best-known unsolved cases in the United States.
