The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court granted bail on Friday to Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, in the investigation into the “Siriliya Saviya” organisation.
She had been in remand custody over the alleged misuse of Rs. 10 million provided by the National Savings Bank to the organisation.
A medical report submitted to the court on Friday indicated that she requires bypass surgery. Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama said in open court that the report set out her medical condition and the need for the surgery. It came with a covering letter from the Director of the Colombo National Hospital.
Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris, appearing for the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), asked for permission to make submissions after examining the report.
The case concerns allegations that have not been proven in court.
