Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has met Opposition MPs from the North, East and Up-country to discuss livelihood issues and the Opposition’s approach to the 2027 Budget debate.
The meeting took place at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament. MPs briefed Premadasa on the social and economic difficulties faced by communities in their areas.
They raised household incomes, the cost of living and financial pressure on families. They also discussed weaknesses in basic infrastructure and challenges in health and education, including access to quality healthcare, school education and child nutrition.
Premadasa said the Opposition expects the Budget to give the public relief by easing the tax burden.
The MPs who took part were V. Radhakrishnan, Dr. E. Shreenath, G. Srineshan, Dr. Ramanathan Archchuna, Dr. M.L.A.M. Hizbullah, M.S.U. Lebbe, P. Sathiyalingam, Mujibur Rahman and Kaveendiran Kodeeswaran.
