Steps have been taken to gazette the Prevention of Organised Crimes Bill, which seeks to strengthen legal measures against organised crime and serious offences in Sri Lanka.
The Bill aims to provide the legal provisions needed to prevent organised crime and allow more effective action against serious offences.
It also seeks to strengthen national and international cooperation in combating serious crime.
The Bill is intended to give effect to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime, which covers criminal activity that crosses national borders.
Once gazetted, the Bill can be presented to Parliament.
