President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s directives for a new Medical Act, Rs. 30 billion allocation for medical supplies, and efforts to enhance healthcare were discussed during a follow-up meeting at the Presidential Secretariat.
A committee including the Health Secretary, Legal Draftsman, and SLMC President will revise the Medical Ordinance. Immediate medical needs will be addressed through the Rs. 30 billion allocation. NMRA’s approval process for critical medications will be expedited.
Steps to improve medicine distribution, inventory management, and nurse recruitment were emphasized. A committee will simplify drug procurement. WHO standard benchmark level 4 for medical products’ quality will be established. The meeting aimed to swiftly implement reforms for an accessible healthcare system.
Attendees included PM Dinesh Gunawardena, Health Minister Dr. Keheliya Rambukwella, and other officials.
