A man was arrested in Ethul Kotte on Wednesday in connection with the alleged possession and display of protected wildlife parts, in a joint raid by the Air Force Intelligence Service and the Colombo District Wildlife Range Office in Bellanwila.
Officials recovered the antler rack of a strictly protected Sambar deer and two antler racks of protected Spotted deer. The items were allegedly being kept and displayed for sale in violation of the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance.
Wildlife officials reminded the public that possessing or displaying protected animal parts is an offence punishable under the law.
The suspect and the seized items are due to be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
