The Sri Lanka Working Journalists Association (SLWJA) and the Social Media Communicators Collective held a protest in Colombo on 6 October against the proposed Protecting the State from Terrorism Bill.

The groups called for the Bill to be withdrawn immediately.

They said the proposed law threatens and suppresses freedom of speech and expression, and urged the authorities to scrap it entirely.

The Bill has been proposed by the government. The protesters did not say what further action they plan.
