The government is considering a new vehicle registration procedure under which the owner’s name would be displayed on number plates, according to a statement from Parliament.
The proposal was discussed at a recent meeting of the Consultative Committee on Public Transport. The statement said the committee focused on increasing government revenue and meeting the wishes of vehicle owners, and that a proposal to issue personalised number plates was examined.
“Consideration of the legal provisions and the security was stressed at the Consultative Committee meeting,” the statement said.
The statement also noted a backlog of 958,651 in the issuing of number plates.
No date has been announced for a decision on the proposal.
