The Court of Appeal on Wednesday postponed until 22 October its order on petitions seeking to intervene in a case filed by former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Suresh Salley.

Mr Salley is challenging his arrest and detention by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). His arrest relates to ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks.

The court had been due to deliver the order on Wednesday, but the bench announced that it would be given on 22 October instead.

The petitions were filed by several Buddhist monks, including Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thera, by Archbishop of Colombo Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith, and by voluntary organisations. They have asked to be allowed to intervene and make submissions on the legality of Mr Salley’s arrest and detention.

The court will deliver its order on whether they may intervene on 22 October.
