The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a Rs. 1.07 billion contract for Tudawe Brothers (Pvt.) Ltd. to widen and improve a section of the Kandy-Jaffna A9 road, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.
The contract covers the stretch between kilometre 58+240 and kilometre 63+000 under the national programme to widen and improve national roads. It includes the contingency fund and excludes value-added tax (VAT), the government said.
Tenders were invited through national competitive bidding, and eight bids were received. The Procurement Committee and the Procurement Appeals Board deliberated on the process before the Cabinet acted on a proposal from the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.
The A9 is the main road link between Kandy and the Northern Province.
