The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a fertiliser subsidy for paddy farmers for the 2026/27 Maha season, on a proposal by Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lalkantha.

Farmers will receive Rs. 30,000 per hectare, up to a maximum of two hectares. About Rs. 16 billion has been set aside for the programme.

The decision follows recommendations from the Director General of Agriculture and consultations with other relevant institutions, according to the Cabinet decision.

For paddy growers, the payment is intended to help with the cost of fertiliser during the Maha season, the main cultivation season of the year.
