The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber level advisory for rough seas covering the sea areas from Negombo to Galle via Colombo, valid until 1.00 a.m. on 15 October.
In Bulletin No. 12, issued at 4.30 p.m. on 14 October, the Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre said thundershowers are expected off the coast along the Negombo, Colombo and Galle belt.
Temporary gusty winds of 60 to 70 km/h are likely during the thundershowers, and sea conditions are expected to be very rough.
The department urged naval and fishing communities operating in these waters to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions.
Fishermen and others working off the western and southwestern coast should check the department’s latest bulletins before going to sea.
