The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) plans to curtail unnecessary stops for tea breaks on short-distance bus routes, such as Colombo to Kandy services, SLTB Chairman Sajeewa Kanakarathna said.

He said the measures would be applied according to the distance travelled and the destination, while taking into account the needs of drivers and conductors.

Breaks may still be needed on longer journeys to reduce driver fatigue and the risk of accidents, he said.

The SLTB expects to put the measures in place as soon as possible.
