A 49-year-old schoolteacher has been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Monaragala High Court after being found guilty on three charges of sexually abusing a 14-year-old student, Lankadeepa reported.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs. 50,000 and ordered the teacher to pay compensation of Rs. 250,000 for each charge, a total of Rs. 750,000, to the victim.
The case relates to an incident in 2019. According to the charges, the teacher took the student from school to her house and abused the child there.
The case was filed by the Attorney General’s Department. The teacher is a mother of two.
