A Grama Niladhari in the Pannala area has been admitted to Kobeigane Hospital after she was allegedly assaulted by a group that included a National People’s Power (NPP) member of the Kobeigane Pradeshiya Sabha, according to reports.
The group is accused of obstructing her official duties and attacking her. The incident arose from a dispute over the electricity supply to two Pradeshiya Sabha buildings in Pannala town.
Kobeigane Police said the hospital police post had referred a message about the incident to them.
Reports said the council member accused of the assault and another person are also receiving treatment at the same hospital.
Allegations against the member have not been tested in court. Further details on any police action were not available.
