Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has appointed Kusal Mendis as captain of the national men’s Test team, the board confirmed on Thursday.
The SLC Selection Committee made the decision at a meeting at the board’s headquarters. The appointment follows the resignation of Dhananjaya de Silva as Test captain.
Mendis has played 75 Tests and 343 international matches across all three formats.
For cricket fans in Sri Lanka, the change sets the leadership of the red-ball side for the coming months.
Mendis’s first assignment as Test captain will be the two-match Test series against Pakistan in Pakistan.
