Opposition Members of Parliament signed a no-confidence motion against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne at Parliament on Thursday.
The signing took place at the Office of the Leader of the Opposition, led by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa. Several Opposition MPs took part.
The motion is a formal parliamentary step to challenge the Speaker’s position. The Speaker presides over sittings of Parliament and rules on its procedure.
The Opposition has not yet been reported to have given a date for tabling the motion in Parliament.
