The Sri Lanka Convention Bureau (SLCB) opened the Sri Lanka MICE Expo 2026 in Colombo on 6 October, bringing together more than 120 international travel and event operators from 26 countries and over 125 local suppliers.

MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions. The SLCB said the business-to-business programme is expected to produce more than 10,000 meetings between foreign buyers and Sri Lankan industry players.

Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath was patron of the opening ceremony. Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha attended.

The SLCB said the Expo is meant to show that Sri Lanka can host major international events. Business events can bring spending to hotels, transport firms and other local service providers.

Expo activities began on Monday with a business forum and welcome reception. A gala dinner at Port City Colombo is planned, and hosted buyers will be offered a tour of the Cultural Triangle afterwards.
