The Board of Investment (BOI) says internal infrastructure work at two proposed Export Processing Zones in the Northern Province, at Paranthan and Kankesanthurai (KKS), will begin by early January 2027, according to a BOI statement.
Land reservations at the Paranthan zone in Kilinochchi District will open to investors by the end of November 2026. The BOI also plans an investment promotion visit for investors and investor associations in November.
BOI Chairman Duminda Hulangamuwa and Director General Dr. Sulakshana Jayawardena visited the province. Investors told them of inconsistent land valuation and allocation, delays in approvals and difficulty dealing with several government agencies.
Hulangamuwa proposed a Single-Point Coordination Mechanism to follow up investor issues, a Single-Point Investor Facilitation Centre in the province and a regional database of workers’ skills. He briefed Northern Province Governor Nagalingam Vethanayahan on the plans.
The BOI said the zones could generate jobs and income in the North. The delegation also inspected sea cucumber and seaweed projects in Ariyalai, Jaffna.
