Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama has remanded a bank officer until 9 October over allegations that he helped Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera evade arrest.
The suspect, a resident of the Kelaniya area, was arrested and produced in court by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD). Warrants had been issued against the monk by three courts.
The CCD told the court that the suspect allegedly drove Gnanasara Thera from Rajagiriya to the Elpitiya area, knowing that warrants for his arrest had been issued. Police said he was arrested in connection with allegations of aiding the monk to evade arrest and failing to comply with court orders. The offences are being investigated under the Penal Code.
The CCD asked for the suspect to be remanded because its investigations were not complete. The magistrate agreed after considering the submissions.
The suspect remains in remand custody until 9 October.
