The Colombo Stock Exchange closed almost unchanged on Tuesday, with the All Share Price Index (ASPI) rising 5.97 points, or 0.03 percent, to 20,650.23.
The index had traded above 20,740 in the morning before selling returned in the afternoon. The S&P SL20 fell 2.74 points, or 0.05 percent, to 5,844.28.
Turnover was Rs. 1.07 billion on 43.09 million shares. The Food, Beverage and Tobacco sector led activity with Rs. 243.40 million, of which Watawala Plantations made up Rs. 86.31 million.
Shares of AMSL fell 21.88 percent on turnover of about Rs. 156.42 million, the highest for any single counter. Decliners outnumbered gainers, 108 to 87.
Foreign investors were net sellers, with an outflow of about Rs. 29.28 million. Net foreign selling can add pressure on the rupee and on share prices.
