A petroleum employees union said on Tuesday that motorists are queuing for Lanka Auto Diesel and Lanka Petrol 92 Octane, mainly at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) filling stations.

Bandula Saman Kumara, Chief Secretary of the Sri Lanka Podujana Progressive Employees’ Union-Petroleum, told a media briefing that the Government should take responsibility. He alleged that the Government had failed to ensure an adequate supply.

Kumara called on the Government to act immediately to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fuel.

Energy Minister Anura Karunathilaka told Parliament on Tuesday that the Ministry of Energy Secretary had instructed private fuel distributors to maintain minimum stocks and ensure uninterrupted supplies to the market.

Long queues affect drivers, public transport and the cost of moving goods, which can feed into prices for households.
