President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired a special meeting at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo on Tuesday to review preparations for Sri Lanka’s third mutual evaluation on anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) standards.
The evaluation is scheduled to take place from 26 October to 6 November. Officials at the meeting reviewed progress on recommendations and action plans at ministry and institution level.
The President said Sri Lanka must identify its national risks and introduce the necessary legal provisions and institutional reforms. He said these should be seen as steps the country needs to take, not as actions driven by outside pressure.
The meeting also covered bringing the Proceeds of Crime Act into operation, implementing the Companies Act and amending the Trusts Ordinance.
The President urged full commitment over the next three weeks. He described a successful evaluation as a national priority for the country’s financial credibility, which matters for banks, investors and businesses that deal with overseas partners.
The evaluation begins on 26 October.
